Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.’ Psalms 42:5,8
Indeed! The best Message you can send yourself may be only three words long: HOPE IN GOD!
When things get uncertain and troublesome and the soul argues with itself, like in Psalm 42:5, Psalmist is preaching it to himself by saying: Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, Amen!
Hoping in God does not come naturally for sinners like me. We must preach it to ourselves, and preach diligently and forcefully, or we will give way to a downcast and disquieted spirit.
I love the way the Psalmist wrestle and fight and struggle to maintain his hope in God. This is a normal Christian experience while we are still just saved sinners. And we better own up to it, or else we may grow sluggish and negligent in our fight for hope. And that is very dangerous, as our bible plainly teaches.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge Hope in God!.
Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
It can be so easy to give into worry, fear and despair, but with Him we can find strength, and look forward to wonderful things (Not wishful things). He gives us hope!
Thank God we can sing, “My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.”
I pray that God help us to place less of our trust in people, things or ourself but help us to hope in God alone!. Amen!
